Jewelry Photography Basics: Clean, Professional Images from Home

Do your jewelry photos look dull, dark, or just not as beautiful as the real thing? Clear, well-lit images are essential for websites, online stores, show applications, and social media—but photographing jewelry can be tricky!

This beginner-friendly virtual workshop is designed to help makers and artists learn the foundations of jewelry photography. You’ll discover how to capture clean, white-background product photos that make your work shine online.

Professional photographers Scott Erb and Donna Dufault, who specialize in working with artists, will demo step-by-step techniques using borrowed jewelry pieces while you watch and learn. With plenty of opportunities to ask questions, you’ll gain a clear understanding of how to improve your own images at home.

All demonstrations will focus on creating product photos suitable for websites, online stores, social media, and show submissions. By the end of this session, you’ll have a solid foundation and the confidence to start creating better jewelry images on your own—so your work looks as professional online as it does in person.

We’ll cover:

  • Lighting basics to show detail and sparkle without harsh shadows.
  • How to photograph on white backgrounds for a clean, professional look.
  • Pro tips for smartphone and camera users to get the best results with what you already have.
  • Essential tools and inexpensive gear that make a big difference.
  • Simple editing tips to finalize your images for websites and marketing.
