Measuring Spoons!
Measuring spoons are surprisingly easy to make, but bring immeasurable joy each time you're used in the kitchen.
Students will learn to fabricate a simple set of measuring spoons in this 1-day onsite workshop using wire, sheet metal, and just a few tools! The instructor will demonstrate various hammers, forming blocks, and fabrication techniques that will allow students to transform metal discs and wire into a complete set of measuring spoons that can reliably be used for cooking, baking and brewing.
Fundamental fabrication skills including annealing, dapping, wire manipulation, soldering, and finishing/refining will be covered throughout the course - each student will hone these metals skills while creating their own custom-made measuring spoon to take home! There will additionally be an option to fabricate a connective rings to hold your spoons together, or a wall rack to mount and display your new creations! Hammer textures and other adornment options for customizing your set will also be discussed.

Meet the instructor
Joy Raskin has been a silversmith since 1984 and has exhibits throughout the United States, Ireland and New Zealand, showcasing both her jewelry and flatware designs. Joy is a native of New Hampshire, having attended public schools in Manchester and Concord and was accepted as a member of the League of NH Craftsmen while still in high school. She received her BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and her MFA from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. Joy is an instructor at Metalwerx in Waltham, MA, The Craft Center in NH, Sharon Art Center, and many other schools.
Joy has received many awards for her work. She was commissioned by the NH State Council on the Arts to create the Cultural Access Award for the Governor’s Awards in the Arts in 2001. Her work is included in many collections, including the White House and Smithsonian Institution. Joy's work is found in multiple galleries throughout New England, including the League of NH Craftsmen Galleries, Boston Society of Arts & Crafts, Guilford Art Center, Millbrook Gallery, and others.
Materials & Tools
There is a $20 studio fee for this workshop payable upon registration.
There is an additional $30 materials kit fee that is payable to the instructor on the first day of the workshop. The materials kit includes several feet of bronze wire in numerous heavy gauges as well as 12 brass discs in numerous sizes.
