Shell Game: Simple Synclastic Forming with DIY Tools
Learn to create elegant, dimensional curves using simple tools and materials in this accessible virtual class! We’ll explore synclastic shell forming—where metal is shaped into smoothly domed, bowl-like curves—using traditional hammering techniques. The twist? You’ll make your own wooden forming stake from an ordinary 2x4, proving that you don’t need fancy tools to make beautiful, professional-quality forms.
Synclastic shapes are perfect for earrings, pendants, beads, or sculptural elements in larger works. Whether you’re a beginner or brushing up your skills, this class will leave you confident in your ability to shape metal with control, grace, and creativity.
