Wax Carving Intro - Virtual Workshop

This wax working course will focus on introductory techniques used in creating wax models for rings and small ornamental pieces of jewelry. Learn how to carve and sculpt a custom design from wax, apply surface textures, and incorporate organic/natural elements to create a unique piece of jewelry that you can cast in the future! Discover the myriad of possibilities for what you can create through wax carving! 

Class will be held live via Zoom during the designated time frame. A link to the Zoom room will be sent via email.

Materials & Tools

Students will need to have the following materials in preparation for this online workshop. If you do not already own these, we have provided a recommended item and/or a vendor from which you can purchase these items. Click the vendor name to the right of each item to be redirected to the page where you can find or choose the item. The quantities you need for each item are listed first. Do be aware that some items may come in larger quantities than needed for this class. If you have to purchase any of these items, please order them as soon as possible due to longer than usual turn-around times. We recommend not opening the packaging until the day of the workshop. 

Items labeled as optional are not necessary to complete this workshop, but highly beneficial for the process.

Only get the optional wax burs if you have a rotary tool to use them with (flex shaft type tool).

  • 1 x wax bur assortment 1/8 inch shanks (Contenti - item # 330-129) OPTIONAL

  • apron
  • safety glasses 
  • hand-held brush for cleaning wax residue
  • #2 needle files or any small metal files (make sure to clean them first)
  • flex shaft or other rotary tools (only if you are going to use burs listed above)
