Wearing the Work: Styling & Photographing Jewelry with a Model

This in-person workshop is designed as a collaborative model day for jewelers who want to learn how to photograph their own work on a person. Working together with a model, Scott Erb and Donna Dufault will guide students through the process of styling, lighting, directing, and photographing jewelry on the body. Rather than simply watching a demonstration, students will be part of the decision-making process as the class explores how clothing, pose, crop, expression, background, and lighting all shape the final image. Through guided demonstrations and interactive shooting, the class will create images in real time while discussing how to make photographs that feel intentional and polished.

Students are encouraged to come to class with finished jewelry pieces that may be used during the live demonstrations. Having a range of student work in the room will give us options to style and photograph, and will make the workshop more relevant, flexible, and interactive for everyone.

Throughout the workshop, we will create images together in real time, testing how small changes can shift the look and feel of the jewelry - from bold and editorial to quiet, elegant, dramatic, or approachable. Students will see how different necklines affect necklaces, how hand placement changes bracelet and ring images, how earrings read differently depending on hair and pose, and how the right model image can help communicate not just what the piece looks like, but who it is for.

This class is ideal for jewelers who want to better understand how to present their work on a person for websites, social media, portfolios, press, and marketing. It is especially useful for artists who want to make stronger, more intentional images that connect their jewelry to the audience they most want to reach.

Please be advised: Due to the need to order supplies, we customarily close registration for our on-site offerings one week before the start date. If you wish to join the class after registration closes, please contact us at [email protected] or 781-891-3854.
