Emi Joyce was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan. She is a Kintsugi restorer and instructor, repairing damaged ceramics and regularly teaching Kintsugi in Portland, Oregon. She is formerly a full-time bench jeweler, apparel designer, and natural dyer. Her lifelong craftsmanship and knowledge of fine motor skills moved on to repairing ceramics in the Japanese Kintsugi way. Fractures are mended and emphasized with gold instead of being hidden, Kintsugi is an acceptance of imperfection for objects and humans. The concept of Kintsugi has changed her life. She always appreciates Kintsugi also connects people to people.
