OVERVIEW
Metalwerx is currently accepting applications for our Studio Assistant internship. This is a paid seasonal position wherein the prospective candidate will work with our staff supporting the Studio Manager.
Responsibilities include:
- Assisting the Studio Manager with preparing material kits for upcoming classes.
- Getting the classroom/studio space ready for incoming workshop instructors. (e.g. working with the Studio Manager to reconfigure the space, printing rosters/attendance sheets for instructors, etc.)
- Cleaning the classroom/studio space after classes and replenishing consumables.
- Assisting the Studio Manager with cataloging donations and supplies.
- One (or both) of the following, contingent upon availability:
- Acting as a teaching assistant for one of our weekly or weekend workshops.
- Monitoring block(s) of open studio time.
This is an opportunity for college students in their third year or above, as well as emerging metalsmiths, to gain experience both maintaining and teaching in a metalsmithing classroom environment. The nature of this position necessitates interacting with a wide range of metalsmithing instructors—many of whom are important figures within the field. This is an excellent opportunity to both network with, and learn from, some of the top metalsmiths in the field.
This position requires a minimum of 10 hours of on-site work per week, with the option to extend up to a total of 20 hours. The exact schedule is very flexible and will largely be determined by the chosen candidate. The compensation for this position is $18/hour. In addition to that, we are offering one free class the following semester. (Yes, this does mean that the Spring semester intern may select from one of our master level classes in the summer, provided they meet the class prerequisites.)
