Description:
The Virtual Course Assistant role is a new position designed to meet the needs of our growing organization. We seek an eager and engaged person with ability to be a host in our online courses. The Virtual Course Assistant will support administrative-related activities and represent Metalwerx in online interactions with students and educators with the goal of promoting a supportive, enthusiastic environment for all constituents.
Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Program Manager, the Virtual Course Assistant is responsible for managing general administrative tasks related to online class management, before, during, and after each course.

Online Course Preparations include:

Meet with instructor prior to class as a “dry run” to go over equipment, prerecorded videos if using them, and zoom logistics.

Email zoom links and handouts, if applicable, to students prior to class.

Meet with instructor half hour before class session(s) begin.

Live Online Course Management:

Provide a friendly introduction at the start of online classes: zoom basics, welcome teacher and students, etc.

Take attendance and follow up with students who are not present.

Support teacher by monitoring the class and fielding questions from the zoom chat, as appropriate. Provide helpful links in the chat and promote a supportive environment.

Resolve technological issues with zoom or equipment for instructors and students as needed.

Online Course Wrap-up includes upload and email class recordings after each class session. Manage Vimeo Storage.

Compile information on community member needs and convey relevant financial, customer service and equipment information during weekly staff meetings.
Qualifications:

Excellent people skills with passion and commitment to working for an arts organization.

Friendly and willingness to engage with students in an online environment.

Ability to work both in a team and independently.

Accurate, detail-oriented, and reliable.

Comfortable with technology and a willingness to learn new programs as needed. Experience with Microsoft suite, Zoom, Vimeo, and ability to troubleshoot technological issues related to online class management.

Metalworking experience is desired but not required.
Compensation and Schedule:
This is a part-time hourly position budgeted for $16/hour. Estimated 20 hours per week, aligned with the online class schedule. Volunteer support is available for any scheduling conflicts.
