Basic to Bodacious: Texturally Fused Rings
In this class, students will learn to be "productive pyromaniacs" by fusing sterling silver into uniquely patterned one-of-a-kind sheets by layering strips of precious metal** next to, and on top of, one another. Students will then use their hand-made sheets to make beautiful, bespoke jewelry. Instructor Marne Ryan will demonstrate her signature process, developed over 40 years, of how to transform sterling silver into exquisitely captivating textured metal. Marne will demonstrate how to embellish their bands with gemstones, using both single and double framing options. She will also cover how to create step bezels and how to turn scrap metal into desirable textured precious metal sheet.
**Gold stock/wire and sheet/ will be made available for students who wish to purchase it directly from the instructor. Students are encouraged to bring in their gold scrap to use in their sheets.
PLEASE READ THE MATERIALS & TOOLS TAB CAREFULLY TO BE SURE YOU KNOW WHAT TO BRING.
Please be advised: Due to the need to order supplies, we customarily close registration for our on-site offerings one week before the start date. If you wish to join the class after registration closes, please contact us at [email protected] or 781-891-3854.

There is a $40 materials fee for this class that is payable upon registration, which includes a Nova charcoal block from Allcraft for students to keep and covers the cost of fuel gas and various communal studio supplies needed to complete exercises and projects.
There is an additional $150-200 materials fee for this class that is payable to the instructor during class. The materials kit includes Sterling silver sheet and wire for fusing from TB Haagstoz (the only silver Marne uses for her fused textures), and will vary based on what texture(s) you would like to try out, and how prolific you plan to be. Marne will go over the options during class.
If you wish to purchase your own silver from TB Haagstoz before or after class, please see details in the "What to Bring" section below.
Note: Metalwerx has available all that you will need, but these tools and supplies need to be shared, and are not always in "mint" condition. Be sure to clearly mark any tools you bring from your home studio so they are easily identifiable.
If you wish to purchase additional Sterling silver sheet for fusing, Marne recommends ordering sheet and wire only from TB Hagstoz. If you mention Marne Ryan sent you when you order, they will give you the next weight tier discount. Any gauge of metal will fuse, but Marne recommends 24-28ga sheet and 18-22ga wire.
