Carve Your Own Stone Heart in 1 or 2 Parts!

In this unique Valentine's inspired workshop, students can opt to join us for one or two days to make a carved stone heart and, if you stay for the second day, turn it into jewelry! Take this as a one-day workshop and make a lovably perfect paperweight or a heart-shaped worry stone, or take this as a two-day workshop and carve a heart-shaped cabochon that you set into a finished piece of jewelry! You must choose in advance if you'd like to take this workshop as a one or two day, to ensure we have the right amount of materials for everyone.

In Part 1 of this workshop on the first day, we'll have the unique opportunity to select a rough stone from Allison Keast's vast array of semi-precious stones and learn how to shape, carve, and polish their stones into a heart-shaped 3D object or small cabochon. Students will learn how to use lapidary machines and equipment to cut, carve, and polish rough rock into a (he)artfully shaped three-dimensional objects like a paperweight or worry stone. Students who opt to take this workship as a two-day experience will carve and polish rough rock into heart-shaped cabochons, which will be ready to make into jewelry in Part 2 on the second day. Cabochons are gemstone that have been shaped and polished to be a dome shape on the top and are completely flat on the bottom.  

In Part 2 on the second day, all two-day workshop students will turn their heart-shaped cabs into jewelry! Allison will teach students basic metalsmithing skills (sawing, filing, and soldering) that students will use to create either a ring or pendant. You'll shape a simple bezel setting and learn how to set their carved heart cabs into a finished piece of jewelry!   

Please Note: All students will purchase rough stone directly from the instructor in class.  The cost of stones varies and will depend on the type and size.
