New Lengths: Soldered, Beaded, and Wirework Chains

Expand your repertoire and chain choices for all your designs!  This workshop will teach multiple methods of chain making using wire weaving, beading, and--for those with Jewelry 1 experience--soldering.  Students will come away with the knowledge to create an array of strands to suit their future projects.

Beginners are welcome and can expect to learn a variety of cold techniques including trichinopoly wire weaving, bead knotting, and the delicate and beautiful beaded chain style commonly known as rosary chain.

Students with Jewelry 1 experience can also use soldering to expand their chain-making skills.  Everyone in the class will be encouraged to consider creative clasps to link together their designs.

Students are encouraged to bring beads or other materials from home to use (in addition to the materials provided) as well as a pendant they would like to design their chains for. Students are welcome to pick from Genevieve’s stash of steel and craft wire, gemstones, pearls and beads to supplement their creations!

Please be advised: Registration for onsite classes closes one week before the class start date.

Genevieve is a multimedia artist based in Boston MA, whose practice draws inspiration from an early life rooted in the landscapes of the Pocono mountains and Philadelphia. Fragmented rural landscapes converge with the infrastructure of urban space, they create jewelry and sculpture that invites the viewer to embrace the ‘nostos’ of nostalgia, returning home, perhaps viewing familiarity through another lens. Piecing found objects with metalsmithing, ceramic, handwork, and fiber techniques in metal, Genevieve oscillates between observer and narrator; calling on the visual language of their hometown(s), religious and folk symbolism, collected ephemera, and observations from daily life in Boston to explore themes of environmentalism, community, and identity.
